THE PERFECT AFTERNOON: At the finals of the Indian Open Polo Championship 2011 at the Jaipur Polo Grounds, we spotted many regulars from the Delhi social circuit socializing and enjoying their favourite afternoon sport. This game between Cavalry-Team Jindal Polo and Jindal-Carysil, where Samir Suhag scored the first goal of the match kept everyone glued to their seats.
A Peter Burleigh, the US ambassador to India, said, “This has been such a thrilling match, such close scores, I'm enjoying it very much,” and added jokingly, “And if I’m not getting anything, I’m asking my friend here!”
HEAVY PETTING: Naveen Jindal walked in mid-match, during the fifth chukker with wife Shallu and his pooch, who soon became the centre of attention as guests indulged in some heavy petting. When asked the little guy’s name, Shallu smiled and said, “This is Chester.” So, does she like the game? “I love the ambience at polo matches, it’s beautiful. Though, I don’t follow the game thoroughly, this is the finals and its very exciting.” Gillian Wright too brought her pets, mother-daughter doggie duo, Mishty and Soni to the game. “This has been a tradition – to bring your pets to polo matches, and so, I brought mine,” said Gillian. After the game, which ended with the scoreboard showing 11:9, guests thronged to the after party, which was showcasing some beautiful pieces of art by artists such as MF Husain and Souza.
